Happy 2014

January 18th, 2014

I’m hopefully not going to regret this post in 7 months. Hopefully I keep my New Years Resolution which I fail every year of blogging more. So, here are a list of goals I hope to keep this year.

  1. Finish Updating TroyDPatterson.com Goodness it’s been 4 years I haven’t finished yet
  2. Finish Icarus Ascend See above comment of it being 4 years
  3. Finish Pinball Machine Personal project for more than 4 years that I’ve been making killer progress on
  4. Learn Unity

That doesn’t seem to be too tough. I’ve started over programming Icarus Ascend (again), I’ve dumped making my own level creator for a better tool. I’ve passed information on the game off to various audio guys that I know and I believe I have a guy for the music (I don’t want to make any promises that I’ll regret in another year)

As far as TroyDPatterson.com goes, I’ve completed the base update and just haven’t updated this site yet. I have the site working in HTML5 (not because I hate flash, I just hate that so much of my traffic came from iOS devices… mainly mine). I’ve dumped the 3 section system (Toolbox, Developer, and Play) it just didn’t make any sense. I completed the migration as you can see from earlier posts, and now I have a bit more stability and freedom.

I’ve had a few things with my pinball machine get pushed to the wayside as work picked up. It eventually had to be shelved until I got/get more free time.

I’ve been meaning to learn Unity for years now, and it’s getting worse now! After I finish Icarus Ascend I’m going to move on to actually learning it. First… I have to finish Icarus.

Be Well, All.
(Have we done this before?)

Happy 2013

January 22nd, 2013

I’m hopefully not going to regret this post in 7 months. Hopefully I keep my New Years Resolution which I fail every year of blogging more. So, here are a list of goals I hope to keep this year.

  1. Finish Updating TroyDPatterson.com Goodness it’s been 3 years I haven’t finished yet
  2. Finish Icarus Ascend See above comment of it being 3 years
  3. Finish Pinball Machine Personal project for more than 3 years that I’ve been making killer progress on
  4. Migrate TroyDPatterson.com I’m sick of the downtime I keep experiencing
  5. Learn Unity

That doesn’t seem to be too tough. I’ve been working on a map editor for Icarus Ascend for the past few months, it’s almost ready to pass off to a level designer. Then I have to think about stuff like music and sound effects. I have a few folks in mind I’m going to pass out a line to, to see how well that goes.

As far as TroyDPatterson.com goes, I’ve been working on it in the background when I get bored. The site isn’t super buggy right now, but I want to experiment a little more and try and compress everything again. The 3 section system doesn’t seem to work well for me. I don’t know how often you’ve been visiting, I’ve been experiencing a lot of down time for stupid reasons. I’m going to fix that this year.

I’ve been working on a lot of pinball stuff in my spare time, learning how they work and testing various things out with Arduinos and my Raspberry Pi. I’ve been putting together a prototype, but it’s not ready to show anyone just yet.

I’ve been meaning to learn Unity for years now, so much so it’s becoming a nuisance. After I finish Icarus Ascend I’m going to move on to actually learning it. First… I have to finish.

Be Well, All.

So where were we? Oh yeah Travis vs Troy (competion 2)

July 1st, 2009

I had Troy vs Troy running at a decent speed. I had 3 players almost working. One player was controlled by the user, the second player was controlled by AI(Randomly running in a circle) and the Third. Well the Third was going to work via network. That was until I went to Wizard World East(in Philadelphia). After that happened I shelved Troy vs Troy and decided to focus solely on Travis vs Troy.

In my infancy(my actual experience) regarding AI programming, I’ve been trying to figure out a better way to do things this time around. I’m not going to lie or hide anything that I’m doing this time around. I’m going to try and document/blog better this time around and talk of my mistakes and shortcomings. So here’s a few things about this competition.

The Rules
1. Travis got a two week head start on me because …
2. It has to be a platform game. (I’ve built one before so I had an advantage)
3. The game has to work within a website. (This loose rule has me scared what Travis may pull off)
4. The competition ends on August 31st.
5. The game has to be written in Flash. (This was a damper because I was going to try something very slick.)

The Game
So with these four rules I’ve decide to revisit the concept of a literal “Travis vs Troy” concept. The main character is going to be Travis (voices by yours truly) and the antagonist is going to be MrTroy (voiced by Mikey McFly). And since I’ve already had experience with building a platformer, I want to dedicate more time towards building something very polished. As I was saying above I went to Wizard World East and I saw the New Grounds booth and thought to myself. Maybe I should make something very polished instead of thinking of only functional.

So… at the time of this writing I can only say this…
“Abuse” – Look it up. It’s what I’m attempting.

WTF Theme!?

August 24th, 2008

I was going to update wordpress and I accidently erased my Theme because Filezilla crashed before downloading the previous site. Hopefully I can find an archive elsewhere and reinstall it.

New Gear for the site

February 1st, 2008

I’m going to make a new gear of the site. Currently there’s only “Computer” “Game Related” “News” and “Websites” each represented by a color… I made this site so long ago I don’t remember which color is which. I think white is news, red is game, other than that. I dunno. Anyway! I’m gonna make a new gear, and I’m not going to use a color.

I’m making a gear that’s going to be about concepts. After Squdi went halfway through his “300 game idea” challenge. I figure “Why hold back on concepts I never plan on actually making anyway?” so I’m going to talk about them more. I know I’ve said this on at least 2 of my other websites(prolly even said it here once), but this time… IT COULD BE THE ONE.

And… this site actually gets traffic while my other sites don’t. :)

Popsknot version 2

July 25th, 2007

Holding it down while I was at Otakon, Efrain worked on the website. Now I’m going to create the second theme for this ol’ site of mine to match Popsknot.com

Post Otakon

August 23rd, 2005

Hey there and greetings. Otakon was once again a blast. If you’re here looking for someone elses site be it Marc, Che, or Pete(coming soon). Each have been given their proper linkage. Otakon this year was great! I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Unfortunately I lost every single business card I gathered this year on the way home. I’m not too happy about that. I tried my damnest to remember everyone’s links but alas, I failed.

So I’m gonna start searching again for those of you I promised to email with more information. Talk to you soon. :)
